Report Card Mentoring for Youngstown Community School

Expired

Description

Report Card Mentoring is a part of United Way's Success After 6 program. This is a chance for us to bring caring adults into the schools to offer support and guidance to the students. Positive role models can make a huge difference in a student’s life. Mentoring has a huge impact:

  • Young adults who face an opportunity gap, but have a mentor are 55% more likely to enroll in college than those who don’t have a mentor.
  • Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school.

The students you will work with will be in the 5th-8th grades, you will be making a significant impact on their lives. Thank you for being a part of this great program!

The dates needed are October 29th 2021, January 21st, 2022, and March 25, 2022. The times are still to be determined but will be during school hours!

REPORT CARD MENTOR INSTRUCTIONS

  • Sign in, receive mentor packet, set up your spot. In your mentor packet you will receive a name card and commitment cards.
  • Students arrive. You will have 10 minutes to work with each student. Success After 6 and United Way staff members will help match the students to their mentors.
  • Introduce yourself. Briefly get to know your student.
  • Go over their report card. Please be ENCOURAGING. Talk about where they had difficulty, where they had success, how can they do better, do they need extra help, etc.
  • Offer advice on how they can improve. Share stories of what you were like as a student. How you have to work hard now at your job. Why it is important to improve your grades.
